Blogging 101

I had a few requests for this post, so here it is. Everyone and their aunt has a blog these days but that shouldn't discourage you, if it is something you really want to do then definitely go for it. It is simple and straightforward, all you need is an internet connection. That being said to gain popularity you need to put in some effort and here are some ways to make your blog stand out or at least compete with the existing blogs floating on the internet.

Your blog's layout, font and background should all reflect you and what you want your blog to represent so definitely take your time, play around with it. Look at other blogs for inspiration, to see what works and what doesn't. There are many digital whizzes that will happily help you out for a reasonable fee and completely revamp your blog. You can even buy some designs on Etsy which you can see here

What kind of blog are you? Is it beauty? Lifestyle? Fashion? If it's a mixture don't worry so much, my blog is a combination of all the things that I find interesting hence I called it ALittleKiran because it is essentially about me. If you're blog is about something in particular find a way to incorporate it into the title. You can again take inspiration from others, some of the best blog names are clever yet straightforward, there are names like CupcakesandCashmere, Kayture etc.

If you like writing this should be easier for you. I imagine if you want to start a blog you already have ideas for a name, design and what you want to write about. If you struggle with writing, write it out in Microsoft Word first that will ensure you don't have any pesky spelling mistakes. Grammar is very important and I can't abide mistakes in blogs. That being said I am sure I've already made several, just do your best to avoid juvenile spelling mistakes. Know the difference between you're and your. If you have trouble thinking of content, start with a post about yourself whether it be a TMI tag, a 20 questions tag or even a written version of draw my life. Have fun with it, and write about whatever you care about. There are no rules.

I use Google Blogger which is a great and easy site to use, everything is fairly straight forward. You can use Wordpress or any other blogging site. To obtain my website I used GoDaddy and it was very inexpensive.

The most important part of blogging is actually wanting people to read and engage with what you've written. No one wants all their hard work to go to waste, the best tool for this is social media. Use Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook and Instagram. Use your friends and your family. Do giveaways, do whatever you can afford (time and money) to get your name out there. But don't get too distressed if it  is slow going. Good things come to those who wait.

Finally, your blog shouldn't be a way to make money. If you do make money then that's fantastic, but starting a blog should always be for personal enjoyment rather than monetary gain because the money won't come in and almost always you have to put more into it than you'll receive. Like I said, blogs are ten-a-penny so don't hold your breath. Good luck if you do start your blog, let me know if this helped at all in the comments and let me know if you would like me to do another post on How To Make Your Blog Stand Out. Thank you so much for reading. Take care.

Love ♥
