Makeup brushes are every makeup addict's best friend, and you, my friend, only deserve the best. These four brushes are an essential addition to every makeup lover's kit. 3/4 are from Real Techniques, and that is just a happy coincidence. They are my go-to brand for when I need to feed my brush addiction. I also have my eye on their Miracle Complexion Sponge, allegedly the best dupe for the original beauty blender. So to learn why you need these, please read on and I will share some brushes I am coveting at the end as well.
Real Techniques Bold Metals 300 Tapered Blush Brush ($19/£13.50) This has to be mentioned first because it is possibly the most versatile brush I own, in fact I think they should rename it the Bold Metals Multitask Brush; it is brilliant. Although, described as a blush brush I actually use it for my base. It is the perfect size, I literally paint my foundation on my face in stripes like I would with a traditional flat foundation brush, and then comes the amazing part. . .because of the tapered shape and super soft bristles you can also use the same brush to buff the foundation into the skin to create a flawless base. Due to the size, I feel like Goldilocks but it is not too big nor too small, literally just right so after applying my concealer I can use this brush to pat it into the skin, I sometimes use it for powder when I really want to set my concealer in place. Of course, it is designed for blush, but you could use it for highlight, bronzer, anything you want too. I am so glad to have this in my collection. I can't recall my life before it - if you would like an updated foundation routine please let me know below.
Real Techniques Contour Brush (Core Collection - $18/£12.80) I actually feel really guilty because for years I completely overlooked this brush, and by overlooked I mean I didn't touch it, at all. It is only sold as part of the Core Collection and I wanted to get my hands on the buffing brush - money well spent - but now I have been confronted with the errors of my ways. One morning, unable to find my angled contour brush I picked this up instead and I don't know why I was so sceptical. I just thought it was the wrong shape, or that it wouldn't blend, but the way this brush tapers into a point is perfect. You are able to lay down a precise line of contour where you want it and then the shorter bristles blend it out. I feel like this brush is such an overlooked gem, I am deeply sorry Real Techniques I should never have doubted you, you guys have never let me down.
Real Techniques Setting Brush ($8/£5.65) A great brush for applying powder in key areas, and for applying a gorgeous highlight. Fan brushes are too harsh for my liking, they can illuminate texture in the skin and for day to day a subtle look is preferable and the setting brush disperses the perfect amount of highlight on the high points of the face. Another use for this pink beauty is to apply a wash of colour on the lids, you might think it's too bug but actually it is a perfect fit. It leaves you with a diffused well blending wash of colour.
Sigma E40 Blending Eyeshadow Brush (£10.50) Eyeshadow is my favourite part of makeup and eye brushes make up most of my brush collection. You can never have too many. A good blending brush is usually the first thing anyone into makeup buys and there are many on the market: MAC 217 (£20) anyone? This is the best. I haven't tried them all, but I don't think I need to, there is just something about this ridiculously fluffy brush that makes blending effortless. I already want to buy five more. Trust me, you need it.
Thank you so much for reading, I hope you found this post helpful. There are so many other brushes I am dying to try: ZOEVA Rose Gold Collections (Vol 1 (£65), Vol 2 (£65) and Vol 3 (£75)), Charlotte Tilbury Powder & Sculpt Brush (£35) and the Morphe Elite Brushes to name a few. I hope you got through this Wednesday, I am shattered and so ready to collapse into my bed. Have a wonderful week, don't forget to follow my blog and comment! Take care.
What are your favourite, couldn't-live-without-it makeup brushes?
What brush are you dying to try?
Love ♥

I thought the bold metals brushes were more expensive than that! I still won't be picking them up as I'm concerned they'll be too heavy for me, but it's good to know the price is now closer to their original range. I love the standard RealTechniques brushes. I have a few MAC brushes that I love too, but I can't remember the numbers! Xx

A few of them are quite expensive, especially in Superdrug/Boots, but if you purchase them directly from the Real Techniques website they are less expensive. MAC have some great brushes!
