FOUNDATION FRIDAY | CHARLOTTE TILBURY MAGIC FOUNDATION SHADE 8 REVIEW

Photo from mixedgems.co.uk
I tried the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation (£29.50), and thought I would share my thoughts. This foundation is available in 15 shades; continued use of this product should reduce the appearance of acne, pigmentation, large pores; redness; dark circles, birthmarks and scarring. It is said to be suitable for all skin types and all ages, as well as possessing an SPF 15. I have combination/oily skin, so my biggest fear was that this foundation would look too shiny on me or disappear within a few hours. The packaging, I have to say, is stunning. However, I wasn't sure how realistic it is for one foundation to work just as well on both dry and oily skin. Too good to be true? I am the Shade 8.

The foundation was applied, using the Magic Complexion Brush (£45), by a lovely Beauty Consultant, who assured me that as it is a water-based foundation it should work fine on oily skin. She also spent some time detailing the clever ingredients in this foundation. The main ingredients are: laricyl; hyaluronic filling spheres; and supercharged Vitamin C. These ingredients are natural ways of hydrating, plumping, and firming the skin. Vitamin C decreases discolourisation and dullness.

PROS
  • Beautiful design
  • Applied really well, blends easily.
  • Lightweight formula
  • Great colour match
  • Buildable, can customise the coverage you want (light-medium)
CONS
  • Does look a little shiny throughout the day, so for oily skinned girls pack that powder to go.
  • Not enough coverage for me, I prefer a medium coverage, and I feel you need to use quite a bit of product to get that, which seems quite wasteful to me.
  • Didn't meet my high expectations as I have read so many rave reviews.

Overall: 3.5/5

Thank you so much for reading this post. I hope you enjoyed it. I want to apologise for not having any of my own photos of this foundation. This was something I tried a while ago and I had already posted about it, but took it down as I wasn't happy with the post in general. Apologies for that. If I manage to take any photos of this foundation, I will ammend this post. Please leave a comment. Take care.

What is your favourite high-end foundation?

Love ♥

  2. I've heard a lot of people rave about this foundation as well and while I love the packaging and design of the bottle, I don't think this would have enough coverage for me either.

  4. Aww No! I was hoping it would be better than this! I was so tempted by this one but decided against it as I don't have a counter near me, glad I didn't now, heard quite a few people say they prefer Sheer Glow for this type of foundation! Its a shame because it really is beautiful :)

    1. I would choose Sheer Glow over this one as well tbh, it is nice but just not nice enough for the price I don't think. I think if you have dry to normal skin it would look lovely, and if you like light to medium coverage then it is worth it. But I would fly through this bottle because I like a solid medium coverage. 5. I love the packaging of this. It's a shame it didn't offer more coverage. I actually planned to get this at some point. Maybe more for winter when my oiliness is a more controlled xxx

  6. Bummer that the coverage wasn't all that great :( I actually just watched a youtube video about how great it was, but now I'm second guessing it since I don't want something too sheer. Thanks for the info :)

    1. Thank you, Mili, it is a lovely foundation I just prefer a little more coverage. I think MAC's Waterweight foundation is a lot better, but if you have dry skin then check out the CT you might like it more than me xxx

  7. I love the sound of this foundation but for the price of it I would want full coverage! x

  10. I barely ever use foundation and on occasions that I do a high street one acts just fine. I am, however, on a search of something a bit more high ended that I'll love and stick with, so hearing others' opinion is what I spend a lot of time at :D Thanks for sharing!

    1. Hope this helped, if you let me know what skin type you have and what coverage you prefer I would be happy to recommend some foundations to you. I love the original Makeup Forever HD foundation, I'm not sure how the Ultra HD compares though xxx

  13. I recently cleared out all my makeup (we're talking about 15 once to half used foundations, BB creams and tinted moisturisers!) so I could try some new products and a Charlotte Tilbury makeover was on my wishlist. I'm really glad I read this though as I too have oily-combo skin and its a lot to pay for something you've got to substitute with reapplying and powder throughout the day. I'm currently using Chanel's lumiere velvet but I'm not 100% happy with that either! Thanks for the honest review :) x

  14. I am looking for medium coverage at least as well, one of the many reasons I never tried that foundation. The other one is the fact that we don't have a CT counter here in Germany, so I would have to guess my shade.

    1. They have some good photos available to make it a little easier on guessing the shade, but I am always a bit weary of doing that. I am in the same boat as I really want to try the Milani 2-in-1 foundation but I have no idea what shade I am. Thank you for commenting, Linda xxx

  18. I want to try this foundation out simply to see if it does really reduce scarring and all of that! It is quite pricey though, and like you I do like a more medium coverage!
