WORTH THE SPLURGE | HOURGLASS AMBIENT LIGHTING EDIT LIMITED EDITION HOLIDAY 2016 SURREAL LIGHT PALETTE REVIEW SWATCHES

Hourglass Surreal Light Palette Review and Swatches
The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Surreal Light Palette (£69) is available at Space NK right now. I was lucky enough to play around with the palette in person when I was in London just this weekend and at a whopping £69, that's almost £70 (insert dying emoji here), I thought it would be worth sharing what I thought of this hyped up palette when witnessing it in the flesh. Firstly, it's quite small. That's always the way with these palettes, in person they are considerably tinier than they appear online. I wish I had taken more photos so you could see the size more realistically. The marble design of the exterior is utterly divine and definitely appealing to many people.

Hourglass Surreal Light Palette Review and Swatches
The content of the palette, if I am being honest, just didn't excite me. As you can see from the photo above only the blush, which is a lot pinker than I prefer, really stands out. Inside there are 5 exclusive shades and you can read the descriptions below:

• Surreal Light: a sheer nude powder evoking the magic hour of perfect lighting
• Surreal Bronze Light: a neutral tan shade fused with Surreal Light, for a subtle, natural warmth
• Surreal Glow: a pale peony pink blush mixed with Surreal Light for a delicate flush
• Surreal Effect: a cool, pink rose fused with a soft, warm peach for a pop of flattering color
• Surreal Strobe Light: a glimmering peach powder imparting an alluring highlight

Hourglass Surreal Light Palette Review and Swatches on Medium, Tan, Indian Skin
Brilliantly, the palette does have a mirror so is great for travel as well as being quite compact, I can see this being popular with busy people who like to do their makeup on the go. My biggest concern, however, is that a lot of the powders look the same on my skin, whether it is a highlight, a setting powder or a bronzer. In fact the bronzer didn't show up on my skin at all, it just adds a sheen. I think this would be a beautiful palette for anyone with fair to light skin. The blush and the bronzer don't suit my skin tone, they are either too bright or too pale. The other three powders: Surreal Light; Surreal Effect and Surreal Strobe Light all look too light to come off as being "natural" for my medium/tan skin tone. It's a very expensive palette and one that I personally wouldn't get much use out of, therefore I would not buy it and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with skin similar to mine.

Thank you so much for reading, I would love to know what you think about this palette as I know everyone was so excited when news of this palette reached the internet and blogs. I know their Ambient powders are very popular and spoken highly of, so if you have had success with them in the past I am sure you will love this palette too. I do like that they stepped out of the box with the packaging, it is very cool and innovative. Their design team slayed this product. Please leave me a comment with your opinion. What do you think of the Hourglass Surreal Light Palette?

  4. This is the second post I read today about this lovely palette! The shades look so nice but they would definitely not work on my skin. But I love the packaging and the design, so pretty!

  8. Thanks for the honest review! I have to agree that many shades in Hourglass palettes kind of look too similar. I have Luminous Light and even though many people say it is a great highlighter, I use it as a setting powder. Simply because it is too subtle to be a highlighter, unless someone has a very fair skin tone. Good job xx

  9. The packaging is sooo beautiful! I have noticed with a lot of the hourglass palettes, they look smaller in person because they don't come with a large amount of product. Bummer that a lot of the shades looked similar when swatched :(

  11. Thank you for such an honest review, with Hourglass I feel like people tend to ignore things like the bronzer not showing on their skin and just continue with the whole "It's Hourglass, buy it!"
