Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic Palette Photo Review Swatches
Hey guys, how is your week going so far? Already mine isn't going so well at all. I feel about three hours away from a breakdown and I will get into it if the situation resolves itself. I have been hearing a lot about the new Alchemist Palette ($32) from Kat Von D that was released on 22nd December. A lot of comparisons have been drawn between this palette and the Anastasia Beverly Hills Moonchild Glow Kit, an issue we will address in my next post if you're interested. Onto the Alchemist Palette, first looking at the packaging and then onto the swatches.

The packaging is cardboard, slim, compact. It is in the shape of a triangle and has a mirror which I know a lot of people will appreciate. Each pan contains 1.53g of product and there are 4 different colours in total. That isn't a lot of product. The cost is $32 for the whole palette, which works out to 8 per shade. The actual palette is not marketed as a highlight palette. It is a Holographic Palette specifically formulated to act as a "top coat" and "transformer". It can be used on the lips, eyes, cheeks, anywhere you want and on top of other products to create a reflective holographic effect

The swatches are quite pigmented, which is great as you really don't get much product so this is a case where a little goes a long way. Definitely more pigmented than a highlight needs to be, so I think it is meant for those of us experimenting a little with makeup. I think all of these shades would look gorgeous on really deep skin and really pale skin, it would give the most magnificent effect. I don't think any of the shades would be very flattering on me as they are all so cool toned. The 4 shades are: Emerald (green), Saphyre (blue), Amethyst (purple) and Opal (pink). Out of all of them Saphyre is my favourite, I think they are all gorgeous, interesting shades that would look stunning in many different ways. They look like duochrome shadows to me but with more reflective properties

All in all, I have to agree it is a beautiful palette. Gorgeous pigmentation and very versatile if you are someone who would happily use these shades. I don't think you get a lot of product for your money if I am being completely honest, in spite of how pigmented they are I just think it was a bad business decision to make the pans so small when the Moonchild Glow Kit is so big (see comparison post here). Personally, I wouldn't buy this palette as it is not colours I go for, the only shade that appeals to me is Saphyre and I am sure I could find a dupe of that. What do you guys think of this palette? I know it sold out in less than ten minutes. Do you think it is worth buying? I would love to hear your thoughts, please comment below and follow me on Bloglovin'. Don't forget to check out my next post, I will be posting it straight after. Thank you so much for reading. Take care.

Would you buy the Kat Von D Alchemist Palette?

  1. I was absolutely dying to get my hands on this palette. I'm really fair skinned and think the colours would flatter my skin tone like you said however I like the sound of Anastasia's moon child palette after reading this so I get more product. Thanks so much for this post you saved me money!

  2. The colors are gorgeous! I have the moonchild palette and agree that it's a much better value. But even if the colors are cool toned I find them to be surprisingly wearable :)

  3. Lovely post. I actually picked this up, just waiting for it to come in. I've been wanting the ABH Moonchild palette for the longest time, but the shipping & extra fees upon delivery always held me back. Really excited to see for myself how well this KVD one works!
