Personally, I love Valentine's Day in spite of my single girl badge. It just seems like a great day to me where everyone celebrates love, all kinds of love and not just romantic love. I do understand that it is little more than a flimsy excuse for shops to sell shedloads of lovey dovey crap but despite knowing this I still think it's cute as hell. Being single means there is a distinct lack of plans for my Valentine's Day but, because I never make plans on Valentine's Day (expectations much?), this doesn't faze me. However, for all you newly single peeps out there or just anyone who feels shit about being a lone wolf this holiday this post is for you. Here are some suggestions on how to have a good time despite being single and absolutely not ready to mingle.
Valentine's Day falls on a Tuesday this year which means my sorry ass will be at my desk for 8 hours. Whether you work from home, are unemployed or still at school, just because it is Valentine's Day doesn't mean you can't crush it at work. Nothing is better for you than the feeling of accomplishment, so bulldoze your way through your workload, listen to some Britney Spears 'Work Bitch' and feel like the fabulous girl boss you are. Extra points for arriving to work on time with a smile on your face. Of course, if you hate your job then get proactive and start creating the life you want to live. Apply to jobs you want, tinker with your blog if you have one or just write down some goals and get to work! If your work life doesn't allow for this how about hitting the gym instead?
BE KIND TO YOURSELF
We constantly forget to be kind to ourselves. We forget to treat ourselves with the same respect and regard that we are taught to show to others all the time. Practice self-compassion and help yourself have a lovely day by just being nice to yourself. Hopefully, you all do this anyway but if you don't I couldn't think of a better time to start than right now. It can be hard to get to grips with at first but treat yourself like another human being, like a friend. Would you let your friend berate themselves for a silly mistake? Would you let your friend skip dinner because they are stressed? Hopefully not.
Valentine's Day is an excuse, not that you need one, to spoil yourself. Put yourself first. Watch that really soppy movie that everyone thinks you hate but you secretly love (we all have one, don't worry). Break out the expensive chocolates your Mum has hidden for hypothetical guests that will probably never come. Go out with your friends, go on a date, make yourself a cheeky cocktail at home, the list is endless. Whatever you want to do you can do it. Tuesdays are usually so boring, spice up your life. NB: Yes, that's a Spice Girls reference, I was obviously feeling very 90s.
TO ME, FROM ME
Just because you don't have a significant other doesn't mean you can't dress fancy af if that's what you like and that is what makes you feel good. You can wear your finery and break out your high end, use once a year makeup to put a little pep in your step. Why not? Look extra fine and feel extra good. If that's not your style then slot aside some pamper time the night before so you wake up with glowing refreshed skin. Painting my nails always makes me feel better too, whatever works.
You're single, you're fine. So you don't have a boyfriend/partner to get you a cheesy gift, who cares? Get yourself something you actually want. It's unfair that everyone in a relationship gets a present and singletons are forced to go without on this one day. The injustice. A gift is mandatory. Even if it is something as silly as letting yourself have a nap when you get home even though you're not 85 you're just emotionally attached to your bed. Or that ridiculously priced foundation. Get it, I won't even judge you if you select to have it gift wrapped and write yourself a note. I always think of Cher in Clueless where she sends herself flowers and gifts when there is a guy she likes so he knows that she is desirable. Well, you are desirable. Has there ever been a better example to follow?
I know you won't believe me but the Britney theme was entirely accidental, I fell down a gif hole and just had to include them because if you are feeling down about the impending holiday what better way to find your smile again than stare at Britney doing wonderfully weird things. Sorry not sorry. That's all for today, folks. I hope you enjoyed it and would love to hear about your plans if you have any, single or not, and please let me know if you would like any Valentine's Day posts like a makeup tutorial or a fashion post or anything at all really. If you have any questions or posts in mind that you would like to read let me know in the comments. Thank you so much for reading, don't forget to follow me on Bloglovin', your support means everything and I love you all. Take care.
