WORTH THE SPLURGE? | HOURGLASS VANISH SEAMLESS FINISH FOUNDATION STICK IN GOLDEN TAN REVIEW

Everyone loves this foundation, except little old me. I am talking about the Hourglass Vanish Seamless Stick Foundation (£42) of course. I, fortunately, purchased this at a blogger event at Space NK where I  got 30% off (making it £29.40, admit you're impressed by my maths skills, aren't you?). First and foremost, the price for the amount of product you get is ridiculous but in spite of that the Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation received mixed but mostly positive reviews and many bloggers/influencers touted it as being the foundation stick for oily skin so you know I had to try it. I bought it last September and I have still been deciding how I feel about it since. I think I have finally come to a conclusion, so let's jump in, I am in the shade Golden Tan for reference.

It is describes as being a full coverage, long-wearing (12 hours), waterproof foundation and concealer in one with a triangular design for precision application. Let's not beat around the bush, immediately after application the foundation looks gorgeous. It is full coverage but you do have to use a lot of product and practically cover every inch of  skin to get flawless coverage. It doesn't seem to work well with any of my primers or any other makeup products, like powder. It does not last all day on me and gets extremely oily after just a few hours of wear no matter what I do i.e. setting, baking, blotting etc. This foundation hates me, but the shade is a good match.

I am not a fan of the tube or shape of the product either I find it awkward to move around the face. I sincerely, strongly don't recommend this foundation to anyone. It's not all around bad but for the price I expect so much more. If you have oily skin or are just looking for a long-lasting stick foundation try the L'ancome Teint Idole Stick Foundation it's fantastic and works on a range of skin types. This is such a disappointing product, I really wanted to love it and trust me when I say I tried my hardest to make this work. I used it in so many different ways but this just isn't compatible with my face, if you like it of course, and I am sure some of you do, I would love to know any tips and suggestions you have on making it work because "das expensive".

PROS

  • Good shade range
  • Creamy, full coverage
  • Photographs beautifully

CONS

  • Not long-lasting
  • Gets really oily after just a few hours
  • Doesn't seem to work well with other products
  • Expensive
  • Don't get a lot of product at all compared to other foundation sticks
Thank you all so much for reading, just so you're all up to date I am going to be in France next week. Fingers crossed, I get my shit together and have all my post scheduled in time. I find adulting so stressful it's sickening, I barely have time to wash my hair. I must be doing life wrong, but how gorgeous is the weather? I am so happy the sun is out and about again brightening my day, it has improved my mood tenfold. I hope you are all well and enjoying the week so far. Take care.

Have you tried the Hourglass stick foundation?

Love
Kiran

  3. Well that's turning me off this product! I recently worked with a mua on a commercial shoot last week and she said that foundation and primers that contain silicone don't stay on your face well and if one contains silicone and the other is silicone free it will not stay on properly at all! I Then of course during the shoot, we were on our phones checking what foundations have silicone and unfortunately, Hourglass foundations do. Their Veil Mineral Primer apparently does not.

  4. I genuinely only wanted to try this because of all the rave reviews but really I am against it for so many of the reasons you mention. That price...is ridiculous and then to think its for a measly amount of product? Urgh! I will definitely look into trying the Lancome one since I am a huge HUGE fan of Teint Idole Ultra xxx

  5. I've not been tempted by this as you get such a small amount of product for your money. I do however like the Bobbi Brown foundation sticks xx

  6. I agree with your review, I do like this but it's not the best foundation I've tried and I also agree that it has a very small amount in it compare to other and it is expensive indeed.

  8. Thank you for sharing your honest thoughts Kiran. It just goes to show high end isn't always best and it must be so frustrating that ithis one hasnt worked for you. I've yet to try any foundations in this stick form as I always worried they'd be too greasy for me. Xx

  9. The price did put me off, and judging by your review I did right to save my money. It is very expensive for the little product you actually get.

  14. I normally am not a fan of stick foundations and you don't recommend this, so it spares us money! Such a pity, cause it sounded promising... :( Good luck in France and yes, adulting is heavy... time and duties and etc. Once I wrote for a free paper work at the university - called "My day", or something like that - it was more a writing exercise... that I didn't have enough time for everything, cause I always had to wash my hair and etc (something you mentioned, the hair) and the professor showed that to the whole class and made fun of me... she definitely didn't get that I was still figuring out or adapting to being an adult, and I never forgot that :) Hope you have a nice trip and weekend!

  17. Yeah, das expensive and too bad you are not thrilled by it, you would expect an expensive product to work brilliantly and it's such a disappointment when it does not. Thank you for your honest review :)

  20. Oh no, I'm so sad that you didn't like this one. I actually really liked it. I like to use my Hangover primer underneath this & work the foundation in with a beautyblender. After setting my whole face with a dusting of setting powder, all the other products I use seem to work fine with it.
