LAVENDER LIPS | AISHWARYA RAI BACHAN CANNES INSPIRED MAKEUP TUTORIAL

Last year, 2016, Aishwarya Rai wore this stunning floral Rami Kadi gown paired with a striking purple pout and smoky eye to The Land of the Moon premiere. The second I saw this photo I knew I wanted to try this look on myself. While, I think she looks flawless, she actually received a lot of flack and criticism for this look which inspired me to be more adventurous and try a colour I would never normally purchase. Finding a bold lavender lipstick is not easy, I didn't want to run to Anastasia Beverly Hills because there is a very real possibility that I will despise it on me. Luckily NYX came through for me and I found a gorgeous colour that I fell in love with. NYX is fast becoming my favourite drugstore makeup brand, praise the makeup gods for bringing them to Boots and Superdrug. Now, if only they would bring Catrice, Covergirl and Wet 'n' Wild here too. To see how I created my own version of this look, please keep reading. It's not perfect but I do really like how it turned out. I actually added glitter to the eyes but because it took around three hundred photos before I settled on one that was half decent (the struggle) most of the glitter had fallen off by this point. Enjoy!

I always look so angry in photos, I apologise. In case you are wondering, I didn't retouch the photos they are as they are. I took the photo with my Snapchat app though so my face is flipped. I just prefer it that way. There was actually a study done that produced evidence that because we are so used to looking at our mirror image we think we are more attractive when our faces are horizontally flipped i.e. reversed, but others (the people in your life) prefer your true image because that is the sight they are used to. If you're interested you can read the study here, it was carried out by in 1977 and is called Reversed Facial Images and mere Exposure Hypothesis. It's quite short too.

EYES: Makeup Revolution Ultra Contour Kit for transition shades, Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Palette 'Punk' (OOS), Sleek Au Naturel Eyeshadow Palette shadows 'Regal' and 'Noir', Barry M Dazzle Dust in Silver, Cover Girl Super Fibres mascara

LIPS: NYX Liquid Suede Lip Cream in Sway. This colour is beautiful and comfortable to wear as well as transfer proof! I really like this formula. I did have to apply it with a lip brush first because my lips aren't particularly defined and I had to layer quite a few coats to get the opacity and evenness I wanted, but all in all I am pleased as punch with this purchase.

Really impressed with NYX Sway out of everything I used. I also love the Barry M Highlight Stick in their contour duo it adds the perfect matte highlight to the face and blends out seamlessly. I am still not a fan of the Marc Jacobs foundation, I think it photographs superbly but in person looks heavy.

Thank you for reading, I had so much fun creating this look. I was going to add lashes but couldn't find any lash glue. There was a dark moment when I considered using non-toxic PVA glue and then had to give myself a reality check. No makeup look  is worth losing your eyesight over. I read online that Vaseline will act as glue in a pinch but it will only last for half an hour so I tried that but I couldn't get the bastard to stick on. It might work better with a fresh set,but it seemed a waste when I am literally washing it all off as soon as possible. I really hope you like this look and if not then at least this amazing lip. Don't forget to follow me on Bloglovin', you won't regret it. Take care.

What is your favourite colour (mine is purple)?

    1. I think that is most likely what they actually used on her because she is a spokesmodel for L'Oreal! I was searching for ages trying to find the exact lip, thank you for telling me! Xx

  10. Such a pretty colour, although I have very pale skin so I'm afraid it would make me washed out. It suits you very well though!
