NARS x CHARLOTTE GAINSBOURG | OLD CHURCH STREET VELVET DUO EYESHADOW REVIEW

Can we talk about this hunter green and gold packaging for a second? I  am so in love with it, makes such a nice change from the matte black. I went to an event a few weeks ago and picked up the Nars Old Church Street Velvet Duo Eyeshadow (£25) from the new-ish Charlotte Gainsbourg collection. This was simply a case of I had to pick something from the collection and out of everything this duo is what caught my eye. I didn't even realise the packaging was green until I unwrapped it at home, in the photo below it looks black but in better light it is the most striking green which perfectly compliments the gold lettering. I want everything in this packaging now.

Eyeshadows are always going to be my weakness, I don't think there is such a thing as too many but even I can admit that £25 for these two colours is a ridiculous price. I would only recommend buying it for those of you who are die-hard Nars fans, or just want to treat yourself to something small but fancy. The quality of the shadows are top-notch, they are so smooth and buttery soft to touch especially the champagne gold which is a stunning, classic shade that will work on everybody. The matte deep not-quite-navy isn't as smooth and doesn't swatch or apply as intensely as it could but it is buildable and depending on the brush you use you can get a varying amount of intensity. I think this dark matte teal can be daunting so the buildable, blendable formula makes it easier to use.

Both shades get a thumbs up from me, do I think my £25 could be better spent? Hell yes. I did pay for it myself by the way, and I strongly considered returning it but then I saw the packaging and I melted like chocolate on a summer's day. It is so pretty. I look forward to using it a little more. I found that the shadows last on my eyes for around six hours without primer and eight to ten when used with a primer.

Overall,  a good purchase just not the best bang for your buck. I would love to know what you guys think of Nars Collections. I always adore their packaging and this time around it isn't as striking as most of their previous summer collections. While I welcome the simple yet stunning design I do think it is more suited to a winter collection. Imagine a navy blue and gold lettering design. How gorgeous would that be? Thank you for reading my quick review, it is too hot to do anything right now. Hope you all had an amazing weekend and enjoy an even better week ahead. Take care.

What has been the most ridiculous makeup product you've bought?

  2. I love this colour combo. NARS teal shades are often a bit lacking, in my experience, but I love a good dark blue/green smokey eye. I did a look with MAC Plumage, which is quite similar, on my blog last year, in this post: http://hyacinthgirl.com/2016/07/01/fotd-mac-plumage/

  4. Oh I've made plenty of ridiculous makeup purchases over the years! It's funny - I'll drop any money on makeup and skincare and then scoff at the price of clothes! lol! xx

  5. I started trying NARS last year and love it. I purchased their LE Summer Collection. They have excellent quality makeup :) I do love the packaging for this! So use to their black. The eye shadows look nice. Enjoy!

  6. I am slowly starting to appreciate Nars as a brand and am tempted to purchase their palette. This duo is stunning but not sure how much use I will get from the dark blue.

  8. I have never tried a NARS eyeshadow, but I like their blushes, and if the eyeshadows are of the same quality, they are for sure worth splurging on. Plus the color combination is a pretty one.

  10. What a shame! I was loving the look of that navy colour! Too bad it’s not as smooth & buttery as the shimmery shade but anything with sparkle looks weird on my eyelids. Thanks for your honest review!

  14. I've not tried many products from Nars, but I've loved what I've tried! This combination just looks really strange to me, the champagne shade looks gorgeous, it's just a shame about the formula of the navy one!xx

  15. I was thinking about purchasing this as well as the hydrating tint, but the price totally got me. The colors are so pretty though! Instead, if I get something from NARS it'll probably be their liquid blush.

  23. I've never tried Nars eyeshadows - I tend to be quite boring with eyeshadow and just stick to nudes because I'm no good at eye make up!

  24. When the Charlotte Gainsbourg range came out I was excited to have a look at what they had offered! I had saw this eyeshadow duo- a strange combination however I absolutely love the champagne gold. Great to hear that it was buttery smooth and great to apply, personally I haven't purchased any NARS eyeshadows before. NARS definitely hands down has the best packaging though!
