T-zone shine is the bane of my existence. I have always thought primers were little more than a gimmick and as a result completely unnecessary, but there are so many YouTubers and bloggers who swear by certain primers so why not try one? I believe Jackie Aina mentioned the NYX Shine Killer Primer (£11) as being a good drugstore primer for oily skin so now that NYX is so readily available in the UK in Superdrug, Boots and Cult Beauty (thank fuck for that!) I didn't hesitate to buy it.
The first thing I want to mention is you only get 20ml of product for £11, which I don't think is a lot of bang for your buck. Most base products for the face such as foundations and primers tend to be around 30ml so that was my first disappointment. The consistency is quite slippery and that is because it does contain silica. I think the trick with these types of primers is to first use very little and secondly to tap it into the skin rather than smearing it. That is a tip I picked up from Desi Perkins. So far I have used it several ways and can wholeheartedly say that swiping it on the face as I am wont to do does absolutely nothing. Doesn't control shine at all, if anything it makes my skin feel oily from the get go. Armed with this knowledge I decided to give it a few more tries.
In spite of trying it in different ways I have to say this was a huge disappointment for me. I don't think it made my skin look matte and shine-free at all. I concentrated it in the areas where I produce the most sebum which is typically on and around the nose and made sure to pat it in. I think throughout the day it did look shiny just not oily. I hope that makes sense. My nose looked almost reflective and blotting is a must. I think my skin would have looked better without this primer on underneath so it's a no from me. If you have tried this primer, I would love to hear your experience with it and please share your favourite primers in the comments below. I always find it to be a tricky category.
You can see above that the primer is clear and looks quite silicone-y. I had high hopes so it is such a let-down. I will continue to use it and inform you of any breakthroughs. I hope you are all having a wonderful week so far. I go to Malaga tomorrow until Saturday so I will schedule a post for this Thursday so please visit back for that when you get the chance. Have a great week guys. Take care.
What is your holy grail primer?
I've been eyeing this NYX primer every time I walk into Priceline but always hesitate to actually pick it up. Great honest review, I'm glad I read this before purchasing it!

Definitely a shame x
DeleteSeriously can't believe I have never tried NYX products before, they are on my wishlist of brands to try
ReplyDeleteBeauty Candy Loves
Seriously, I love NYX! Xx
DeleteAhh such a shame as I usually love NYX! If you're looking for another drugstore alternative then I like Seventeen's Stay Time primer for a really matte finish :)
ReplyDeleteClaire | Vanity Claire xx
Yes thank you so much! Need to try! Xx
DeleteI haven't wore any primers, in a very long time. I just notice that my pores get more clogged. I did heard good reviews on this one but apparently it did not work for you.

Yeah I had high hopes for this one too xx
DeleteOh wow! That is a shame! I hate when a product makes claims and doesn't perform. Then the youtuber vouched for it as well. A lot of credibility is being lost via influencers. Thanks for telling us of your experience and the truth!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.averysweetblog.com/
Thank you, of course all products work differently on different people. It might just be the way I use it xxx
DeleteYou should try a silicone free primer! It will probably help a lot! If you need any recommendations just let me know!

Yes, yes please I am crying out for recommendations! Xx
DeleteI try different primers from time to time but have some tried and tested ones I don't deviate from - Hourglass being one of them as well as Smashbox, which i know are a bit pricier. Shame this didn't work but thanks for the honest review x

DeleteAh I'll probably give this one a miss then, doesn't sound very good at all!! I get an oily t zone too and I find transluscent powders and setting sprays work quite well, but generally I always bring powders around with me!

I am really disappointed haha, yes powders are a godsend x
DeleteOh, girl, I'm sorry this primer didn't work out for you. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts on it though because at least it can spare some of us from purchasing it and having a let down. Thanks again for sharing and I hope you have a wonderful week ahead, beauty!

DeleteOh man, this is such a shame, isn't it annoying when you get all excited to test a new product and it just falls flat? Urgh, hopefully you have some sort of break through xx
ReplyDeletetipscapsule.blogspot.com
YES, yes it is. I am going to keep trying it now I am back from Malaga x
DeleteFirstly, enjoy your holiday! :) Secondly, thanks for the review, I think it's also good to read about products that aren't worth it too. I have dry skin and I go for siliconey primers or the L'oreal studio secrets primer, so it's strange that a primer for oily skin would be silicone packed :) xx
ReplyDeleteVelvet Blush
Thank you! I know, a bit counterproductive but I guess most oily skin types have large pores? Xx
DeleteI'll give this primer a miss! x
ReplyDeleteHeather | Of Beauty & Nothingness x
I don't blame you x
Deletei have extremely oily skin and this one will not suit me for sure ! too bad because it did not meet the expectations.

Apparently both Black Up and Seventeen do good primers for oily skin x
