The more affordable "drugstore" brands have really stepped up their game in terms of expanding their colours (that could still definitely be improved upon) and addressing more skin types. There are now a great selection of foundations available at a much lower price point that are comparable to higher end foundations to suit your skin type. The foundations I mention in this post are suitable for most skin types if used appropriately, but generally are geared towards those who like a long-lasting, medium coverage foundation that will control oil. These are ones I have tried and tested and out of all of the foundations in my collection these are ones I would repurchase or ones I think are ideal for very oily skin types. Let's start from left to right, they are not organised into any particular order. You will find there are some foundations that I don't personally like but still would recommend, especially for those with very oily skin.

L'Oreal Infallible Pro Matte (£9) A foundation that everyone seems to love and for good reason. The coverage, longevity, finish and consistency of the foundation all get a massive tick from me. It lasts all day on my skin, doesn't feel like anything, I do get a touch of oil and would describe it as being medium coverage not full as claimed. I need to blot but I have repurchased this 3 times. My one issue is getting a good shade match is nearly impossible as my shade doesn't seem to be stocked in stores.

Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless (£7) I always forget I have this but when I wear it I fall back in love immediately. The shade range, at least what I see in my local Boots and Superdrug, is hit and miss and you might have to work a little harder with it. This particular shade is too light for me but I can get away with it in the winter months. The reason I like this foundation is because it is so thin in consistency that you barely need any and yet it still covers and looks good. If I had it in my colour I would wear it a lot more. Another good choice for oily skin types as well, the demi-matte finish is very flattering and still life-like.

Milani Conceal and Perfect 2 in 1 (£10) One of my favourite foundations of all time, this is such a gorgeous foundation and I don't think I have tried anything like it. It is medium coverage, but manages to make your skin look flawless without looking heavy and lasts all day long. This is the foundation I wear to weddings and all day events as it never lets me down and photographs beautifully. It is on par with my L'ancome Teint Idole Foundation Stick which is my favourite high end foundation.

L'Oreal Infallible Total Coverage (£10) Words cannot express how much I loathe this foundation, it is thick and blends poorly on me, clinging to dry patches and just feeling sticky on my skin. However, on a very oily skin type I think this would be a dream. It does pack a lot of coverage but I would describe it as medium to full. A good foundation if you want a matte look with staying power and have trouble with getting oily throughout the day.

L'Oreal True Match (£10) The lasting power of this foundation is phenomenal, I am always surprised that at the very end of the day this is still present and covering on my skin. The finish is natural satin on my skin. It blends and applies so easily and is appropriate for the day and for evening events. I do really like this foundation as it never looks like it is too much and is easily fixable. A quick brush of soft focus foundation powder and your base looks good as new. I would recommend this for anyone who likes the coverage of a foundation but not the feeling. It works great for my oily combination skin, but others might have had a different experience.

Rimmel Stay Matte (£6) I have said this before out of all the foundations I own this is the only one I could get away with not powdering which is unheard of for me. It is a thick consistency but has incredible lasting power and really does kick oil production in the ass. The tube it comes in is convenient but gets dirty very easily. This is a foundation I rarely reach for because it does feel like you are wearing a foundation on the skin and I prefer more lightweight formulas.

Thank you for reading, I hope you liked this post and found it helpful. You can tell by the swatches that I have colours that match and don't match because the biggest downfall of "drugstore" foundations is the guesswork. Fortunately, there are many products available to help you adjust your base to ensure it matches better. I use the Maybelline Dream Bronze BB Cream to make my foundations slightly warmer and darker but The Body Shop have their Shade Adjusting Drops, so do Cover FX and I believe GOSH have Foundation Drops too. Have a great day. Take care.
