One of my favourite things about being a blogger is you get to discover amazing brands that you normally wouldn't have come across. This is why, even with all the drama going on right now, social media is such a great tool at bringing like-minded people together. If we could all forget about algorithms and engagement we could still take a few moments to appreciate how many amazing people and talent we have found from social media and try to let that lift your spirits and reinforce your work ethic. The brand I want to talk about today is an independent brand called The24KBeauty. It is founded by Raeshell Youell, a makeup artist and mum of three who wanted to create something beautiful and luxurious for everyone. I think she succeeded.

I was kindly gifted an assortment of liquid lipsticks, mostly matte but there is one metallic and one lip gloss that was sent to me in exchange for an honest review. I am under no obligation to lie or fudge the truth and I would never, I hope you all know that. Even I get sceptical when people receive PR and wax poetic about products (cough Natasha Denona cough) but in these circumstances I wouldn't have come across these if it weren't for the epic power of gmail and Instagram. Thank you internet gods, you are improving my life one day at a time. The first thing I noticed is that they were packaged thoughtfully. In a black netted pouch, with confetti, inside a really cool metallic gold envelope. I love it when brands go the extra mile with their packaging and truthfully I am a nobody so little touches like that reach my heart. It was accompanied by a sweet note and everything arrived all the way from the US of A in perfect condition.

The packaging of the products, the eye-catching deep gold logo and stunning array of colours added to my delight. My one qualm with the brand is the website doesn't include a description of the colours of each lipstick, you have to make a decision based on the picture which is annoying in my opinion. The liquid lipsticks come in slightly frosted tubes so the colour may be distorted and on the site some of the shades look similar when in reality they might not be. I hope they change this soon. All liquid mattes are a reasonable $15. Their shipping is a flat rate of $7 for the US, apologies to my British fam. They don't got you, yet. The shipping rate would definitely put me off, that is the price of half a lipstick, but they do offer some discounts that can get you free shipping so it is worth keeping an eye out for those promotions to save your self some hard-earned dollars.

The colours are all stunning, nicely pigmented and the applicator is comfortably shaped. I really like the consistency of all the liquid lipsticks because I found no matter the colour they all had the same texture and feel which is rare. Even the metallic liquid lipstick, Valentine, felt the same as the mattes. They possess a slightly thicker, more comfortable formula which make them less drying than the OG liquid lipsticks a la Anastasia Beverly Hills and they do not budge. I would say they are completely waterproof, not only on the lips but taking them off my arm required a full arsenal of products until I gave in and hosed myself with an oil-based cleanser. If you don't have an oil cleanser you're playing yourself. It will make your life so much easier.

The brighter colours take 2-3 layers to be built to full opacity and a wait time of approx five minutes to dry completely. Let's walk through the shades, from left to right (see photo above): Crimson is not crimson, instead a dark reddish brown matte, Roseate is a vibrant peachy flamingo shade, Bare is a true dark 90s browny nude with a touch of pink; Livid is a striking bright purple, Valentine is a metallic warm champagne gold and Super Coy ($9.50) is a pink tinted gloss. Once dry the liquid mattes are long-lasting but they are not transfer-proof, however they do feel like nothing on the lips which is a huge bonus. They last well, unless eating oily foods or kissing, and they also reapply easily too. The gloss has a wear time of about two-three hours, doesn't feel sticky but is thicker than the normal gloss. I personally like the sheer wash of colour and find it flattering.

  • Gorgeous and hard to find colours to suit every skin tone
  • Comfortable, non-drying and consistent formula
  • Great packaging and a reasonable price point
  • Longwearing
  • Easy to layer
  • Good applicator i.e. easy to apply

  • Shipping fee
  • Not transfer-proof
  • Some colours require extra coats for full opacity
Thank you for reading my review, I hope you will check out The24KBeauty site and their Instagram Page as well. I think they are a really great brand and wish them huge success so they can offer free shipping for all. I hope you enjoyed this post and would love to hear about some independent brands that you feel deserve some love. Hope you are having a great week. Take care.
