UNPOPULAR OPINION | LANCÔME LE TEINT PARTICULIER CUSTOM MADE FOUNDATION ONLY AT HARRODS WORTH £90? IS IT REALLY CUSTOM?

I am positive you have all heard about the Lancôme Custom Made Foundation, the only reason I feel obligated to post about it is because people in my real life have come up to me to talk about it. They are intrigued, fascinated and want to know what I think about it. If you hadn't guessed I love telling people what I think about new products. Fair warning, my opinion might be an unpopular one but I really want to cover everything so you can all make an informed decision on whether you need this in your life, because for £90 you would have to need this.

What It Is: It is exactly what you think it is. A machine and a process that claims to give you your perfect foundation. It will match your shade perfectly, there are already similar systems used at various other brands like Dior and No 7, but will also take into consideration your skin type and preference of finish.

What It Does: It is a very expensive foundation, but not the most expensive, and it will do what any other foundation does. Hopefully for the money it will give you the base of your dreams as it is "highly personalised" and freshly blended to your tastes.

How Do They Make It: First your skin tone is scanned to get your shade match. You then choose the coverage and finish of the foundation and also any special requirements you may have. For instance, if you have dry skin you might ask to add a bit of moisturiser to the foundation. Finally you will get your brand new foundation in a stunning white bottle with your name and Complexion ID printed on there so next time they can whip it up without going through the steps.

What Makes It Innovative: Although shade matching has definitely improved, what makes it unique is that it is a custom made formula. Your foundation will be created with just you in mind, which makes it special and fingers crossed foolproof.

Concerns - Is It Actually Custom Made?: On the Lancôme site they say the formula is lightweight and provides natural looking all day coverage. This begs the question: is it really custom-made? This, too, could be an explanation as to why many people who have tried it have been disappointed with the coverage. They asked for full coverage and did not get that at all.

Should You Buy It: I think not. It is a lot of money, for that amount of money and for the intricate process you would expect the Meryl Streep of foundations but I do not personally believe that is what you get. A lot of people are not happy with the foundation they ended up receiving. Although it is stunning and a wonderful idea and concept I don't think it is necessity. I already have a few foundations at all prices that work magnificently for my skin, the Lancôme Teint Idole being one of them. If you are a beauty junkie like me you will already own a stupefying number of base products and mix and match at home to custom make your own perfect foundation.  So I don't think it is worth it, the only reason I would buy it is out of curiosity and if I had £90 lying around.

Who Might Like It: If you have really struggled with foundation, you still haven't found a good shade match or your skin just doesn't get on with any of the products you have tried thus far this might be worth a go. If you like luxury items and makeup, if you are a bit of a collector or a blogger this might also be worth trying. Finally, if you have the money and it won't break your heart if this doesn't rock your world.

Thank you for reading, I hope this helped in some way. I would love to know your thoughts on it. I love Lancôme as a brand and I am definitely impressed with this innovation. It is really cool and I am sure a lot of people will love it. I just don't think it is for everyone. If you are interested and do like the idea of it please share why in the comments. I would love to know and for more information go in store to Harrods or take a look at the Lancôme website. If you reside in the US take a look at the Nordstrom website and the Lancôme USA website for more details. Take care.

What is your holy grail foundation and thoughts on this custom made product?

Love
Kiran

  3. I've never heard of this foundation as I'm not a huge fan of Lancome already (except I wanna try the Juicy Shakers). It's sad to hear that it has this awesome, cool technology only to let people down. I'm good with my GA Luminous Silk Foundation. Thanks for reviewing, Kiran! And yeah I agree with the commenter above, you can get shade tested at Sephora in the US.

  4. I think this would be really nice for me as I struggle finding my perfect match in foundations, but the price ugh... I'm more comfortable buying two shades of the same foundation lol, it's cheaper. And I don't live in America so I can't get a custom made foundation :(

    1. Haha yes! Two shades would be cheaper or even those cream foundation palettes makeup artists use would probably be less expensive which is crazy!

  8. Love your honesty Kiran! I do like the idea of a custom foundation but it seems like the execution of the product didn't live up to its claims, which is a big no-no considering the price. Also, I wonder how accurate the skin tone scanners are? I remember getting my foundation matched in Sephora with their scanners and the shades recommended were all too dark for me :(

    1. That's true there is always room for error and especially with skin as it depends on the area you scan as your skin isn't all one colour of course. Thank you for reading x

  10. I definitely agree with you. With so many foundations & formulas on the market today, along with the expanding shade ranges, I feel it's relatively easy to find your perfect shade match without needing a custom made one. And now that drugstore foundations are making a huge leap with their formulations, this price is very high. I really enjoyed reading this, Kiran!

  11. If you truly did get to pick the shade, coverage, and finish of the foundation then it might be worth it, but like you said many people aren't happy with what they are getting. I don't think I would do this although it seems kind of fun!

    1. It definitely does sound fun and I agree if it was you can completely wholly create your perfect foundation then I would be all for it even for the obscene price tag x

  16. I love Lancome Teint Idole Ultra foundation. And I was super excited when I heard about this because the only thing I need is that foundation in my PERFECT shade. But for that price? HELL NO! And the formula is diving the crowd. Totally not worth it. I mean, if someone wanted to gift me the experience then I wouldn't say no, if you know what I mean haha! xxx

  17. I actually haven't heard about this but that is still crazy expensive for a custom foundation, I think £50 would be more realistic! I don't think I would go for it as I have a good match in a light coverage foundation, and this doesn't seem to offer much x

  18. This is an interesting concept for sure but I am aways skeptical of custom-made foundations...if only it was that simple. That said, if you are lucky enough for this to work for you then great, otherwise I'll stick to what I know x

  19. It's a shame it doesn't perform as good as it sounds especially with the questions around the coverage levels. I can't imagine spending that much on a foundation to be honest!

  21. It is painfully expensive! You're right, with a bit of hunting and sampling it's possible for most people to find their perfect foundation for much, much less.

  22. The thought of getting a really custom-made foundation is really intriguing. I do have some foundations that I love and that I know work well but getting to make your perfect foundation does seem just a little bit better. However, just as you, I´ve found myself wondering how custom-made the formulation really is. I guess we´re gonna have to let technology evolve a bit more before the real custom-made dream becomes true ;)
