Marc Jacobs The Wild One Eye-Conic Palette Swatches. Photo by @candidlychelsey on Instagram |
Available now via the Marc Beauty Website, Sephora and John Lewis in the UK, the latest eyeshadow palette from Marc Jacobs called 'The Wild One' has a fittinf zebra print exterior design and an impressive 20 shadows. As expected this palette is not cheap and will set you back $99 in the States and £79 in the UK (£3.95 per shadow). It is definitely on the higher end of high end but is at least partially justified by the big name, luxe packaging, quantity and hopefully quality of the shadows. I have yet to buy a Marc Beauty palette myself despite hearing only good things so let's take a look at the swatches before we make any rash decisions to part with our hard-earned money.

There are a range of finishes in this limited edition palette, inspiration was taken from the fashion industry and some of the shades were designed to resemble materials like sequins and lamé. Of course, there are some great transitional matte shades as well as more vibrant colours as well.
First Row: Paper Tiger is bone coloured matte; Nine Lives is a shell pink matte; Sheepish is a shimmery white cream shade; Early Bird is a warm cream with a champagne gold shimmer and White Elephant is a bright white matte.

Second Row: Nest Egg is a really interesting duochrome green with a purplish pink shift; Lion's Share is an extremely shimmery pink with flecks of silver shimmer; Chameleon is a truly stunning duochrome purple blue with green shift; Hen Party is a fun warm orange red with gold reflects and Funny Bunny is a baby blue with silver shimmer.

Third Row: Golden Fleece is a gorgeous metallic gold with an almost orange undertone; Cat Fight is a vibrant magenta pink metallic shade; Dog and Pony is a stunning deep dusky mauve matte, not too dark and not too light, a shade that pairs really well with a lot of the others in this palette; Bullseye is a deep red impressively pigmented matte and Peacocky is a deep blue matte.

Fourth Row: Foxy is a gorgeous bronze metallic; Freebird is a stunning metallic indigo with a purple base; Bearish (apologies for the typo in the photo it was based off Tati's pronunciation so just a guess) is a lovely deep eggplant matte; Cat Calls is a warm peachy apricot matte and Crow's Nest is a dark blue matte.
Pros: Looking straight on at the palette as a whole I was pretty dismissive. The colours didn't speak to me, apart from one or two and I didn't think I would be able to create many looks out of it. However, breaking it down row by row and looking at the shades individually I am taken aback at how many colours a) I don't own and b) look really gorgeous. Nest Egg, Chameleon, Cat Fight, Dog and Pony and Bearish are my favourites out of the 20 and overall I think it would make a luxurious gift.
Cons: I am not a huge fan of the zebra print and I think the shade names could definitely be better, in addition there are a few shades like Crow's Nest and Peacocky that I could do without. I would like to see a couple more unique colours and this would really tip me over the edge and make me buy it.
Thank you so much for reading, I hope you enjoyed this post. I would love to hear your thoughts on it. Will you buy it? Are there any other holiday collections you have your eye on? I know Fenty Beauty's Galaxy Collection is dropping later this week. I just watched Desi Perkins' video on it and it looks so atypical from the products already on the market. I am really excited for it. I hope you had a brilliant weekend and that your Monday gets you off to a great start. Take care,
What do you think of The Wild One Eye-Conic Palette?
Love ❤
Kiran

DeleteOooh such gorgeous shades! I love the look of Nest Egg! It's amazing! x
ReplyDeleteTOUCHOFGS
Nest Egg really speaks to me too x
DeleteI have the one from last year and I absolutely love it! The colors, the pigmentation, everything. This one is nice and I would like to have it, but the colors aren't a necessity and the price is not the best so this year I'm not buying it. xx
ReplyDeleteCarolina's Makeup Life
Fair enough, Modern Renaissance was/is a total stunner x
DeleteThis does look like a really beautiful palette, but I am not a fan of the price haha! I totally agree that the shade names could be better xx

Yeah the price is high af x
DeleteI freaking adore anything MJ and as you know, I have quite a collection of his products. I have never tried the eyeshadows though so I am really tempted by this.

Their eyeshadows are very highly rated so I think you would get on with them x
DeleteI don't now if I could ever spend that much on an eyeshadow palette! I like some of the colours but there are some that I know I will never use!!

Agreed, I hate the packaging too x
DeleteI agree with you, there are a few shades that would be unique to my collection but I'm not a fan of either the packaging or the price!

Yeah glad you feel the same x
DeleteI don't see getting a whole lot of use for it myself, but the colors do look really nice and I'm sure they're pretty quality coming from Marc Jacobs. I'm more tempted by the eye-conic scandalust palette myself!
ReplyDeleteSam / My Beauty Cloud
Yes the smaller palettes look so so good x
DeleteI absolutely love Marc Jacobs beauty, but could do without the zebra stripes too!

DeleteThe shades look really pretty, but I'm not a fan of the zebra print. I've never tried any Marc Beauty products but I would love to at some point. This is a gorgeous palette.
ReplyDeleteJennifer | Mrs Q Beauty
Yeah the zebra print is a big turn off for me x
Delete£79 is a lot but I'm a massive fan of bougie goodies so I think I might take the bait! The quality of the shadows looks pretty impressive but, on a daily basis, none of those are really shades I'd get a massive amount of use from! x Fabulous post as usual though Kiran, I wouldn't know about all of this new makeup without you to be honest! x
